Over 100 family members, staff, and people served came together on May 13 for Vinfen CT’s 3rd Annual Celebration of Families, hosted by the Vinfen CT Family Advisory Council. Festivities took place at the Pond House Café in West Hartford, where entertainment by the Greika-Palazzo Jazz Duo set the tone for a memorable evening. John Holt, Emmy award-winning reporter and anchor for WFSB, served as Master of Ceremonies. He greeted guests along with Connecticut Department of Developmental Services Commissioner Morna Murray.
Attendees were treated to a keynote address by parent, author, and speaker Dick Hoyt of Team Hoyt, a father-son team that has competed in hundreds of marathons and triathlons. The audience was inspired by his team motto of “Yes You Can!” and Dick’s disability advocacy work. Family Advisory Council member Linda Lamy, Vinfen President and CEO Bruce Bird, and Art Connection Studio artist Daniel Fiorentino also spoke at the event. Daniel gave a heartfelt account of his experiences as an artist and self-advocate, and received a standing ovation at the end of his speech.
Vinfen wishes to thank the Vinfen CT Family Advisory Council and the dedicated and hard-working staff. This event would also not have been possible without our sponsors: Beacon Mechanical Service, Brothers Oil Company, Inc., Suburban Pharmacy, Raffia Road, Clean Machine Powerwash, Donna Webber, APRN LLC, H.A.R.P.
