Art Connection Studio was invited by Trinity College and the Brain Injury Alliance of Connecticut (BIAC) to host an Art Therapy Workshop at the on May 29.

Service Specialists Mike Galaburri and Tara Burke, Art Facilitator Benjamin Reyes, Art Therapy Intern Malley Chapman, and Art Connection Studio artists Dan Fiorentino and Dorothea Davis shared their expertise on art therapy and how can be helpful for individuals affected by brain injury. Tara and Ben, assisted by Dan and Dorothea, then led the audience in a collaborative painting workshop. Two 3’ x 4’ canvases were propped on large easels, with an array of pre-mixed paint on nearby tables. The audience members were asked to come up and take turns painting on either, or both, of the canvases. During the process Mike answered questions from the audience, while Malley documented the event.

The hour long workshop went into a half-hour overtime because the participants did not want to stop painting. Afterward, the audience members had an opportunity to discuss their experience. Both Dan and Dorothea said they liked working in front of an audience and assisting people in painting.

More than 100 brain injury survivors and their caregivers attended the workshop. Art Connection Studio was very grateful for the opportunity and is looking forward to participating in the day of relaxation, friendship, and fun again next year.
